That Old Broke Feeling

A crazy thing usually happens when I ask people if they have ever been broke before – nearly ALL of them have been absolutely broke in the past.

They tell me about it, and they usually are smiling as they tell their story.  That is, unless they are still broke.  If they are still broke, there are no smiles – only tears, anger, humiliation, frustration, and agony.

It does not have to be that way.  That’s why I do what I do – helping people free up their finances and equipping them to fund their plans, hopes, and dreams.

Do you remember when you were broke?  Share your story with us in the comments!

In late November 1998, it was a very cold Friday evening. I had just got off work and I had a really rough week. All I wanted to do was go home, get a shower, something hot to eat and just lay in bed and watch TV. I was really struggling around this time. I was in the middle of a divorce, I had lost my house, my car and all my cash just a few months before. All I had was a 2 bedroom apartment. All that was in it was a bed, a dresser, a TV, some paper plates, some TV dinners, and a toothbrush….seriously. Anyway, I came home that night and opened my door and it was cold in the apartment. I turned the light switch on…..and you guessed it, no lights!! Bad went to worse. Yes, I was broke and humiliated. I spent that night in my car with the heat on in the parking lot of my apartment building. Ever since then, I have not even waited until the due date on my bills. Everything gets paid EARLY!!!
