Another five squares paid off this month.  We continue to pay extra each month, but are mostly focused on rebuilding our emergency fund.  We do have another fund of cash that we are building to make lump sum payments toward the house as long as other emergencies do not arise that require the use of that money.  I would not be surprised if we were able to make some large payments toward the house toward the end of the year.  Exciting!

We have paid all of the hospital bills for Baby Sangl without incurring any debt, but it required the use of a large amount of our emergency fund so we are in “replenish” mode for the emergency fund right now.  We are eating this elephant one bite (or five bites) at a time.

We were able to color in six squares this month.  We are still working through all of the hospital bills from our son’s arrival and rebuilding the emergency fund.  This stuff takes patience, but the plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.  I am committed to diligently crushing the mortgage (I submit as evidence the fact that I have been posting our progress since October 2007).

Baby Sangl (Keaton) has finally arrived and now we are awaiting the final hospital bills.  Once those are paid off, we will replenish the emergency funds and then re-attack this mortgage with renewed vigor.  We are praying to be able to CRUSH this mortgage in short order.  Will you pray this for us?

We now also own the perimeter of our sunroom.  The next time around the sunroom will not take as long.  We can’t wait to say we completely own this room as it is one of our favorite rooms of the house.

Baby Sangl is going to arrive in the next few days so that means we should be able to officially pay the hospital and stop saving for his medical bills.  We will be replenishing the various savings funds and then attacking the mortgage again.

2009 was quite a year.  The Sangl’s endured an enormous amount of LARGE financial events including …

• IVF in January (to attempt to have a 2nd child after 9 years of trying for #2)  Expected Expense
• Heat Pump replacement (upstairs unit) in January  Unexpected Expense
• Heat Pump replacement (downstairs unit) in April  Unexpected Expense
• The news that a 2nd child was on the way (without IVF! – found out in  June  VERY Unexpected Expense
• Moving I Was Broke. Now I’m Not. to a full-time crusade in June  Expected Expense

This meant we had to slow down on our house payoff efforts, but we still were able to lower our debt by a whopping TWO PERCENT.  This is even while paying an extra 25% toward principle every month! That makes me mad just typing it!!!  This is why I am so fervently focused on eliminating ALL debt.

I can’t wait to see what happens in 2010!
