Jenn has retired to be a stay-at-home mom again.  This will certainly impact the Sangl Home Pay-Off Spectacular, but it was important for the Sangl Family to make this decision.  I am so proud of my bride for making the tough decision to be a stay-at-home mother again.  It is hard to say goodbye to a great job and a great income, but this was the right decision for the Sangl Family right now.

We do know this:  Because we have a written spending plan, we will not have to worry about incurring a pile of debt because of this decision.  We will, in fact, be able to continue to attack the mortgage.  All because we have a written plan that we follow!  I LOVE THIS STUFF!

We now own the entire south wall!  For one more month, we remained on a slower path of paying off the mortgage as we prepare for known, upcoming expenses.

Frankly, it just plain stinks to slow down for a few months on this thing, but in just a little while we will be back attacking this mortgage in a way we never have before!  Even though it is not fun to slow down on the mortgage payoff, it would be WAY WORSE to be slaughtering the mortgage and have a future expense derail our efforts!  So Jenn and I have slowed down just for a few months to position ourselves in a way that will enable us to CRUSH this mortgage in a HUGE way.

As stated last month, we remained on the "slow path" for another month to ensure we have adequately prepared for known, upcoming expenses.  The worst thing in the world would be for us to be blasting this mortgage and be cash-poor.  I can't wait until we attack this mortgage with some huge payments again.  A few more months of slowed up payments.  ARGH!

Yes.  We slowed down this month.  We have some known, upcoming expenses approaching, and we are slowing down for a short period of time.  One of the most essential things that I have learned about money is that there WILL be known, upcoming expenses and they WILL come due.  Jenn and I are ensuring that we are more than prepared for these expenses.

By the way, we are STILL committed to paying the mortgage off by October 2011 with the same stretch goal of October 2010!

Jenn and I are even more fired up about getting rid of the mortgage!!!  Why?  Because we are one month closer to 100% freedom from debt!!!  Jenn and I have shook hands and made an agreement that the house payments will be gone by October 2011.  You guys will all get to watch the mortgage leave by watching the "Sangl Family Home Pay-Off Spectacular" turn green!  By the way, I have a stretch goal of October 2010.  It is a HUGE STRETCH.

I am SICK of sending HUGE interest payments to Wells Fargo.  I like Wells Fargo, but I would rather they pay me interest!  Who is with me?!

We are even more fired up about getting rid of the mortgage!!!  Why?  Because we HAVE TAKEN REAL ACTION to reduce our expenses so that we can send even more money toward principal!

So Jenn and I have shook hands and made an agreement that the house payments will be gone within by October 2011 (Three years and 10 months).  You guys will all get to watch the mortgage leave by watching the "Sangl Family Home Pay-Off Spectacular" turn green!  By the way, I have a stretch goal of October 2010.  It is a HUGE STRETCH.

On with this month's update!

Although it does not look like it, Jenn and I mailed EXTRA money toward the house this past month as a result of the gains we made through our intentional spending cuts!  In two more months, we will own the east wall of our house!  I am so excited!!!

By using the "Early Pay-Off Calculator" on the TOOLS page, our house will be paid off in 77 months (6 years and 5 months).  In order to achieve our target of 3 years and 10 months (and my own stretch goal of 2 years and 10 months), we really need to start making larger payments.  Let's see what next month brings!

I'm predicting a larger payment!

Another whopping 0.7% paid off!  Wow!

I am comforting myself by telling myself that for each $1,000 of principal I pay off, I am saving $62.50/year (5.21/mo) in interest (The mortgage note is 6.25%).  That means that I get to save that $5.21/month for the 28 months that it would have taken to reach my new principal balance should I have paid it as scheduled.

With all of the savings going toward additional principal reduction, I am CHOPPING the legs out from under Mr. Compound Interest!

So Jenn and I have shook hands and made an agreement that the house payments will be gone within four years.  You guys will all get to watch the mortgage leave by watching the "Sangl Family Home Pay-Off Spectacular" turn green!

With that, here is the update!

Here is the fact that is making me hate the house mortgage this particular month.  We sent in MORE than TWO monthly payments this month.  That is a LOT of money!!!  BUT, it only paid off 0.6% of the stupid mortgage.  ARGH!!!!  I HATE house payments!  Maybe next month, I will send in 50 house payments ...  Anybody want to donate to the Joe & Jenn Mortgage Early Pay-Off Charity?

By the way, 50 house payments would only pay off 15% of the stupid mortgage.  Proverbs 22:7 sure rings true!  I am so OVER house payments!
