I want you to be 100% debt-free

Anyone who has read this blog knows clearly that I want you to be debt-free – including the mortgage!

Think about that for a minute …  Debt-free INCLUDING the house.  How much money goes out to pay debt and the house every month?  For the average family it is somewhere between $1,000 and $3,000 every month!  What would you do with that money if it did not have to go to service that debt?

A www.JosephSangl.com Financial Hero, David Bach, recently wrote an article on Yahoo! Finance about "How to save big on your mortgage".

In the article, David makes a fantastic statement.  David writes …

I'm often asked if it makes more sense to prepay a mortgage or invest the money in stocks and bonds. Rather than ponder which asset will get you a higher return, I think the better question is which investment decision will free you financially and allow you to retire earlier.

In my 9 years of experience as a financial advisor for Morgan Stanley, the clients who paid their debts off early — specifically their mortgages — retired 5 to 10 years before those who didn't.

I ran the calculations for a $150,000 30-year mortgage with 6.0% interest:

I just love the idea of all of us reading this blog being debt-free including the house!

You know you have financial freedom when …

You know you have financial freedom when …

  • You forget when payday is.
  • The car engine blows up, and you just go pay cash for another one.
  • You are not afraid to tell your manager that he/she is wrong and that there is a better way.  (I have seen many people who are afraid to tell their manager this for fear of retribution or loss of their job.  That's too bad … I believe that most managers would love to have their employees tell them when they are wrong!)
  • You lose your income and your savings allows you to live for months without incurring any debt.
  • You lose the fear of negotiating a better deal.  (Seriously, if it costs more than $100, it is worth negotiating – including with services like doctors, dentists, chiropractors, massage therapists, house cleaning, cable, etc.
  • Bill paying time takes a total of 30 minutes a month.
  • You can go take the job you were put on earth to do … regardless of the income potential!
  • You have enough.

What are some others?

Finish the sentence …  "You know you have financial freedom when …"

98,589

98,589 – It is a very important number to me.

It is the number of people who need to hear this in the remaining 4 years and 3 months.  100,000 was the God-inspired number given me.  1,411 have already been taught.  98,589 remain.

These are people who need to hear that it is EZ to manage their money.  They need to SEE with their own eyes the power of compound interest.  They need a clear plan for their lives.  They need to understand just how much cash will be needed to fund their dreams like college for the kids, weddings, dream vacations, and retirement.  They need to HEAR THIS!!!  They need to SEE THIS!!!  They need to DO THIS!!!

But more than any of this, these 98,589 people need HOPE!  They need to know they still have a chance!  They need this restore unity to their marriage!  They need this BECAUSE IT WORKS!!!

I may seem like I am SHOUTING this.  I AM!!!  I am proclaiming it from the rooftops!

Why?  Because my life was changed!  Because my marriage was taken to a whole new level of unity!  Because I can do EXACTLY what I have been put on earth to do because I learned this stuff!   Because I know that there are MILLIONS who need to hear this!

Time is ticking away … TICK TOCK

Another two down, now the number is 98,587.  Smile

Jerry Falwell

Jerry Falwell passed away a month ago.

I will tell you this.  Whether you agree with Falwell's positions or not, you cannot dispute the following facts.

1.  He was a man of great vision!

  • Jerry Falwell was given a God-inspired vision to reach Lynchburg, VA.  He took hold of that vision and unabashedly proclaimed from the mountain tops, streets, and anywhere ears were present to listen!
  • He was given a vision to start a university.  From its start in 1971, it has grown to over 20,000 students.

2.  He flat got it done!

  • Thomas Road Baptist Church has grown to a membership of over 22,000 people.
  • Liberty University has grown to over 20,000 students.

3.  His integrity was unquestioned!

  • With all of the heat that Jerry took from his opponents, they would have LOVED to have something on him to derail his vision.  It never happened.

4.  His family was STRONG!

  • You look at Jerry and you see his wife, sons, daughter, and grandchildren.  A tight family.  What better legacy could anyone leave than a TIGHT family?

5.  He aimed HIGH

  • He purchased the land for the university on a prayer (he didn't have the money).  By the time the note was due, the money was there.
  • He bought a MOUNTAIN for the university.  God can move mountains.  He can also give mountains!

At the end of the day, let the people say what they want or wish, but let the FACTS show that I was a great father, husband and that I took hold of the God-inspired vision given to me and DROVE it to completion!

Let the FACTS show that I had a TIGHT family.  Let the FACTS show that I got it done.  Let the FACTS show that I had unquestionable integrity.  Let the FACTS show that I aimed high.

Thank you, Dr. Jerry Falwell, for a life well-lived.

Financial Hero – Bank Lady’s Dad

Why is the Bank Lady's Dad a Financial Hero?

The other day I was waiting in an open office awaiting the return of the personal banker.  As I was sitting there, a very elderly lady came in to the bank.  She was at least 80 years old.  Even at this age, this lady had the "fire" in her eyes.  From this point in the story, I will refer to this lady as Bank Lady.

Since the line awaiting the bank tellers was at least eight people deep, Bank Lady took the opportunity to walk up and down the line of people and speak with them (her friend held her place in line).

She stopped by a lady who appeared to be dressed according to another country's customs and pleasantly asked, "Where are  you from?"

The lady said, "I'm from Kenya."

Bank Lady said, "Well, Ken ya help me?  HA HA HA HA HA HA!"

Bank Lady continued, "Seriously, though.  I've been there!"

The other lady stared at her suspiciously.

Bank Lady, full of enery, said, "When I was twelve, my daddy loaded our family up on a boat and took a trip around the world.  One of our stops was Kenya."

Bank Lady, even more alive upon recalling this great memory, continued, "We sailed out of the harbor in August and arrived back into New York in the springtime.  It was middle April."

WOW!  I sat there dumbfounded!  Bank Lady's Dad had left a legacy.  A life-long memory.  He took his family on an EIGHT MONTH TRIP AROUND THE WORLD!

That took money.  That took planning.  That took commitment.  I am still blown away.

For this, Bank Lady's Dad is an official www.JosephSangl.com FINANCIAL HERO!
