Save Money – Get Rid Of The Home Phone

One thing we have all seen is the fact that over HALF of the people that we meet with no longer have a home phone. They have dumped the home phone and are using their cell phones instead.
For those who still have a home phone, I am seeing a cost ranging from $35 to $50/month.
Let's think about this in a larger way.
$50/month = $600/year
How much money do you need to earn to bring home $600? Think about it. If you want to bring home $600 extra in your paycheck, you will need to earn something like $900.
So … By getting rid of the home phone, you are giving yourself a $900/year raise!

Dumping the home phone is not always the best thing to do. I have two teenagers and I want them to be able to get in touch with me. We have one prepaid cell phone that stays in the car my son drives. We would have to have 4 cell phones for all of us to be in touch. Our land line is $21 per month.
The other option is a VOIP line. You can get this through your local cable company or many other companies. The usual cost is $25 per month and it includes long distance. The real advantage is if you have children because the VOIP includes e911. This means you can be found very easily in an emergency. The same is not true of a cell phone.
We dumped our cell phones instead! No cable here, so need the phone line for dial-up internet. Home phone is $37 per month and the cells were running us about $75-80 total per month. We decided to try it the beginning of this year and so far haven’t really missed them. We do have a couple of long-distance friends/relatives but luckily each birthday my in-laws give me a huge prepaid long distance card…so we never pay for long distance either 🙂
I am in a predicament where I cannot get rid of my home phone even though I would love to. I need the home phone for fax and internet for business and it costs me more than $50 a month!….usually about $70. There must be a cheaper way. We hardly ever use this phone for phone calls because of cell phones. I’m glad you posted this because I will be calling my phone company to see if there’s anything cheaper. Do you have any other ideas for me?

You can get a “home” phone number for like $60 a year. Yeah it requires high speed internet, but that has gone down in price the past few years. give that a look too.
We have a land line phone and dumped our cell phones instead… this put more than 1200 dollars a year back into our pockets. Our land line is around 30 a month. I’m waiting for U-Verse from AT&T in hopes that a combined tv, internet and phone bill will save some money as well.

Ya’ll have some cheap land lines. Ours runs about 100 dollars a month but that is with dial up internet also. But I also have caller ID and I have a long distance plan but I live in a rural area and almost everybody I call is long distance. I just recently saw an out fit the other day that is a wireless broadband company for internet. They were much cheaper than Satellite. If I went with them for my internet service and dumped ATT I could save about 40 dollars a month I think. My wife and I already have prepaid cell phones from net10 for 2 phones we pay 30 dollars a month.
I haven’t dumped it yet, but even as a work from home salesperson on the phone all the time I’m seriously considering it.
